Manchester Art Gallery 23-26\/02\/22 w<\/strong>ith Antony Hall and Sophy King. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In this series of 4 workshops, we created miniature terrariums and seed bombs with insect-friendly meadow seeds to plant at home. For me, one of the highlights of this event was getting people to explore the microscopic world of moss and notice the many different species and creatures that live in it. While using the microscope goggles there were many \u2018wow\u2019 moments as people immersed themselves in the moss. I love the way people had to get their faces right in the moss to get the focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is estimated that 41% of all insects face extinction, so it is essential that we take action now to create habitats where insects can feed and shelter. Wildlife, especially insects and birdlife, can thrive in the city if green spaces, such as ‘brown roofs’ and ‘pocket parks’ are planted with wildlife-friendly plants. These mini habitats create green bridges or stepping stones across the city and form an interconnected ecosystem. If we all do one thing for nature, we can make a real difference. For example, devote part of your garden to wildlife, create a mini pond, plant insect-friendly plants in a container on a windowsill, or grow moss and wildflowers on your lawn. Every action counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
